If you had the budget for a Kingsley Jester or Constable, then you'd be golden, honestly (but those pedals aren't cheap). It has a tube buffered FX loop, so you could put a preamp pedal either in the loop or before the amp. You could get a drive pedal or a preamp pedal to give you the overdrive tones you want through the VHT with the channel set to clean, and that'd give you the equivalent of 2 channel amp. It's almost half as expensive as a BJ III, and with the leftover money, you could buy pedals and maybe a replacement speaker (a decent Celestion or EV speaker would cost no more than around 100 euros, give or take, depending on what you get the stock speaker isn't the very best in the world). It also has some flexible tone shaping controls, and it's designed to be a good pedal platform.

It's a hand wired point-to-point all tube amp (= easier to mod and maintain) and you can attenuate the power down to bedroom levels. You might also look at a VHT Special 6 Ultra combo. It won't do the Blues Junior tone as well as a Fender does, but it'll do a better Marshall-y tone all by itself, and a better high gain tone. You can also alter the character of the amp with a variable-class control, making it sound more flexible than a fixed-class amp. You can attenuate the power amp down to 1W if you need to keep the volume down at home, allowing you to get some power amp distortion at lower volumes. It still might be great for you, but you may need some pedals to get all of the tones you're looking for out of it (like a Marshall-in-a-box type pedal, or a Kingsley Jester or Constable if you've got the budget for one of those at any point -> they're the most authentic sounding and good sounding valve preamp pedals anywhere).įor other valve amps, I'd check out the Peavey Valveking II 20W. However, with your budget, it won't sound as valvey as a real valve amp.įor valve amps, the Blues Junior III is a great amp but even at 15W it's still pretty loud for home use (unless you can get away with that, but it's not going to give you quiet bedroom levels with the character of pushing the power amp tubes). If you're only going to play at home, you could consider a modeling amp, they're less expensive and you can keep them quiet if you need to without losing the power amp distortion (since the power amp is simulated and can be 'cranked' without actually having the amp cranked up). Speaking of money, what's your budget? If you haven't bought the amp yet, then I'd suggest putting your money into an amp more suited for the tones your going for. Mediocre pickups into good amp = good tone. Great pickups into mediocre amp = mediocre tone. Having said that, I wouldn't look down on anyone who wanted to replace them, but I'd question why anyone would want to spend potentially 100+ euros more to replace them with something better rather than spending that money on a better amp. That guitar should have Wilkinson pickups, which aren't the best, per se, but aren't the worst. You may find that the amp will make more of a difference than the pickups, but you can get around that somewhat via pedals (like an EQ pedal, for example). Also, the cabinet has a huge impact on the resulting tone.īefore you consider swapping out your pickups, as an experiment, take your guitar to a store and try it out through various amps like the ones above. Mitgenommen habe ich sie aber (vorerst) nicht, da ich irgendwie eh zuviele Telcasters habe.Well, Frusciante = mostly Marshall amps, Prince = Mesa Boogie amps, and Gilmour = Hiwatt amps.
